Bedford Central Librarian Elected to State Office in the New York Library Association

Bedford schools superintendent Jere Hochman congratulates Susan Polos, president-elect of the Section of School Librarians of the NYLA.

In his Nov. 21 community e-newsletter, Bedford schools Superintendent Jere Hochman congratulated Susan Polos, who has been elected president-elect of the Section of School Librarians of the New York Library Association.

He also described the Mount Kisco Elementary School librarian/media specialist’s presentation at the NYLA conference, “Update on 2020 Vision Plan: Creating the Future.”

A strategic plan for all NY libraries and library systems is part of the New York State Board of Regents’ Vision 2020. Polos addressed the recommendations specific to school libraries and talked about successes as well as works-in-progress.

She illustrated that our schools are already embracing many of the recommendations noting we have adopted the Information Fluency Curriculum, we have certified school librarians in our elementary schools, we encourage online access to our resources 24/7, and we collaborate with other community institutions, Hochman said.

He pointed out that it was Bedford librarians who piloted evaluation tools produced by the New York Library Association both for professional performance and the overall school library/media program.
