Harvey vs. St. Luke's

At the Bridgeport Wonderland of Ice, Harvey varsity hockey was once again lead by its seniors in a 10-2 victory over St. Luke’s of New Canaan, CT as they clinched the 3rd seed in the FAA playoff berth. Mike Morra led the charge of the upperclassmen with 2 goals and 1 assist, Nick Gattuso scored a goal as he continued to put pucks on net from the blue line, Brett Marks assisted on 2 goals, and Russell Pober contributed a goal and an assist.

The sophomores and freshman followed their leaders: sophomore Robert Van Rammsdonk led all Cavaliers with 2 goals and 3 assists, sophomore Corey Eisenband scored 1 goal and added 2 assists, and freshman Keith Lambert scored 3 goals for his second hat trick of the year.

Senior goalie Alex Trister turned 8 of ten shots away in 30 minutes of play after going in between the pipes for freshman starter Robert Massimi who stopped his only shot in the first period.

Harvey will face King, the #2 seed, in the opening round of the FAA Ice Hockey Playoffs at Harvey on Thursday, February 23 at 4:00 pm.

Harvey vs. Portsmouth Abbey

Harvey’s varsity ice hockey team travelled to Portsmouth, RI on Saturday (2/18) to take on Portsmouth Abbey School for their second meeting of the year. Harvey defeated The Abbey 7-6 at the St. Mark’s School in a consolation game at the Barber Tournament over Christmas break.

Despite jumping to a 1-0 lead just 1:05 into the game and outshooting the Ravens 50-43 on the afternoon, the Harvey Cavaliers suffered from an undisciplined second period which resulted in too many penalties and four goals against. Senior Richard Schulman and sophomore Robert Van Raamsdonk each scored 2 goals, senior Tim Ehlberg notched 2 assists, and the Cavaliers battled hard in the third period.

But this was not enough to erase the lackluster 2nd period.  Schulman finished the regular season with a 36-18-54 point line, Ehlberg with an 11-24-35 line, while Van Raamsdonk earned a well-rounded 17-17-34 line in his first campaign as a Cavalier.

Freshman goalie Robert Massimi finished up the regular season with a .862 GAA in 1080 minutes played.  Senior Alex Trister finished his final year with a .807 GAA in 84 minutes played.

Weekly Sports Poll

This was created by our own :

Major League Baseball lost a great earlier this month, former Met and Expo Gary Carter

Eleven years after he retired, Carter was elected into the baseball Hall of Fame and many consider him one of the best catchers of all time.

But where do you think “Kid” ranks among the best New York back stops of all time?
