Foxes defeat Greeley

Rivalries are the lightning rod of high-school sports and the -Horace Greeley boys basketball rivalry is as good as any.

Led by Dylan Peretz (19 points) and Will Trawick (15), Fox Lane (12-2) garnered bragging rights by defeating visiting Greeley 63-60 Feb. 1.

Greeley (8-7) was led by Harrison Brown (16) and Connor Domershick (14).

Harvey updates

We thank the Harvey Athletic Department for the below submissions:

JV Boys b-ball
On Wednesday, 1/25, Harvey lost 41-34 to Chase Collegiate. Trailing only by four at the half, Harvey’s JV came within one point of Chase in the second half, but came up short at the end.

Leading scorers for Harvey were Andrew Schwartz with 13 points, Harry Solomon with 8, including two from three-point range, and newcomer Austin Forman with 7 points. Others scoring were Jake Bernstein, Josh Gannt, and Sam Mackiewicz, each with 2 points.

On Friday, 1/27, the Harvey JV Boys defeated the New York Military Academy.  Harvey outscored NYMA by 2 points in the first half (14-12) and then by 6 points in the second half (19-13), winning the game 33-25.

Leading scorers for the Cavaliers were Harry Solomon with 14 points and Andrew Schwartz with 8. Also scoring for Harvey were Sam Mackiewicz with 5, Tom Smith with 4, and Matt Lewis with 2.

On Saturday, 1/29, the Harvey JV Boys’ Basketball team defeated Wooster 41-31 in the best game of their season. At the end of the 1st quarter, Harvey was down by 7 points, 15-8, but the second quarter saw the Cavaliers get hot on offense while virtually shutting down Wooster on defense, allowing them only 4 points.

At the half, Harvey enjoyed a 23-19 lead.  In the second half, Harvey dominated the game, and led by as much as 26 at one point. Leading scorers for Harvey were Austin Forman with 12 points, including three 3-pointers, while Harry Solomon hit double-figures with 10 points.  

Others scoring were Andrew Schwartz (8), Josh Gannt (6), Jake Bernstein (5), Tom Smith (5), Andrew Bowers (4), Sam Mackiewicz (3), Spencer Martone (2), and Matt Lewis (2). 

JV Girls b-ball

On 1/27, the Harvey girls’ JV basketball team lost to visiting French American 19-15, falling to 3 wins and 3 losses on the season.  Scoring for Harvey were Vanessa Mackiewicz (4), Emily Pollack (3), Sammi Aloi (2), Shelley Pitterson (2), Olivia Bady (2), and Alexis Palmer (2). Alexis Palmer was also the leading rebounder.
