We thank the Harvey communications department for the below submissions:

The boys’ 8th grade basketball team, playing in the more competitive “A” division for the first time, had a tough start but ended on a high note with victories in their last two games of their season. Coached by Patrick Kennedy and Dave Ketner, the team finished 4-8 overall.

Coach Kennedy said the season produced some key highlights. In two games, every player scored, and in one game, the boys overcame a 14 point deficit to get a victory. Coach Kennedy said that despite the losing record, this year was one of his “favorite seasons of coaching at Harvey.” He added, “The team really came together towards the end of the season and played unselfish basketball.”

Boys Middle School 6th/7th Teams See Growth

The Middle School boys in the 6th and 7th grades played on split squads, White Team #1 and White Team #2. Michael Rubenfeld and Dave Ketner coached both teams.

Coach Rubenfeld said the aim of the program is to work toward improving the basketball skills of the players and not to pay attention to wins and losses. “The highlight of the season was watching the students grow as players and seeing them gain confidence in themselves and their teammates,” Coach Rubenfeld said.

“The team showed a lot of unity as they fought hard throughout the season with relentless effort to keep games close and exciting,” said Coach Rubenfeld. He said there were many players who showed improvement as the season progressed.

The coach also saw the players learning how to play as a team. “We worked hard and displayed a great deal of teamwork and sportsmanship to make the season both a fun and rewarding experience.”

Coach Rubenfeld said the season provided a lot of fun and excitement. “Through an improved quality of play throughout the season and a determination and continuing growth of confidence, both teams 1 and 2 had many games that went down to the wire.”

No games scheduled.
