Bedford Lawyer Will Go To Prison For Fatal DWI Crash

The lawyer killed a 22-year-old in a high speed head-on crash following a holiday party after his BMW 750 crossed the center line.

BEDFORD, NY — A Bedford lawyer will spend time behind bars after his conviction for a drunken driving crash that killed a 22-year-old Mount Kisco man following a holiday party in December 2019.

Robert Schuster was sentenced on Wednesday to a term of two to six years in prison, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah announced. On August 10, the now 53-year-old entered a guilty plea to felony aggravated vehicular homicide. The Westchester DA’s Office had requested that the court impose a sentence of 5 to 15 years in state prison.

"This senseless tragedy caused by a former attorney with a prior conviction for drunk driving who once again chose to disregard the law and drive while drunk cut short the life of a 22-year-old young man,” Rocah said in a statement announcing the sentence. "My office will aggressively prosecute drivers whose reckless behavior causes these kinds of physical and emotional tragedies for families."

Investigators from the Bedford Police Department and the Westchester County Department of Public Safety determined that Schuster had a blood alcohol content above the legal limit at the time of the fatal collision.

In April 2020, Schuster was indicted by a grand jury on two felony counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
