Bedford Playhouse Raises $2.5 Million

More than 800 people donated money to help the Friends of the Bedford Playhouse reach the goal.

Friends of the Bedford Playhouse reached the $2.5 million goal the group set out to raise to re-open the shuttered movie theater.

“Thanks to over 800 people who pledged and our many wonderful volunteers, we hit our goal of $2.5MM in pledges by March 1st!” the friends wrote on their website. “We are grateful to everyone who helped make it happen. But it doesn’t stop here! We are still taking pledges and encourage you to spread the word.”

The group has not released information on the exact next steps for the theater, but it plans to begin negotiating with the building’s owners.

The former Bow Tie Cinemas theater closed in January, and the friends hope to turn it into an art movie house and social destination.
