Congolese Refugee Family Relocated to Hudson Valley

The five family members landed at JFK International Airport Tuesday.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa have been relocated to Dutchess County.

The family’s resettlement had been arranged by Christ Episcopal Church and Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, through Church World Service, the New York Times said.

The family of five arrived at Kennedy International Airport Tuesday. Their last name was not released by Church World Service over fears for their safety.

Despite President Donald Trump’s executive order, the U.S. allowed 872 refugees to enter the country this week.

The travel ban affected immigrant and non-immigrant travel from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen for 90 days. Travel from the Democratic Republic of Congo was not affected.
