Coronavirus Cases In Bedford Schools Alter Learning Schedules

The superintendent said the district will continue to do whatever is necessary to keep the students and staff safe.

BEDFORD, NY — The coronavirus continues to affect students' learning schedules in the Bedford Central School District.

In three separate letters to the community Monday, Superintendent Dr. Joel Adelberg said the district was notified that three individuals at three different schools tested positive for the virus.

At Fox Lane Middle School, a person was confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus, he said.

"Staff and the majority of students from 8S hybrid one are impacted as well as some others from different grades and Houses," Adelberg wrote. "Those families with children who were potentially impacted already been notified by the school."

He said the dates of potential exposure of students and staff were Monday, Nov. 30 and/or Tuesday, Dec. 1.

"For safety, all students potentially impacted should quarantine now," Adelberg said.

Due to the number of 8S teachers now under quarantine, all 8S students, hybrid one and two, will be learning remotely through the rest of this week, he said.

As a reminder, Adelberg said that Wednesday, Dec. 9 is an all-remote half day for learning.

A person at Pound Ridge Elementary school also tested positive. As a result one of the second-grade classes will begin to quarantine, he said.

Adelberg assured the community that the building is thoroughly cleaned each night and safety guidelines, including social distancing, masks and frequent washing and sanitizing of all surfaces, are being strictly adhered to.

Those being quarantined will be able to return to Pound Ridge Elementary School Dec. 18.

Finally, at Mount Kisco Elementary School a person was found to be positive for the virus, and as a result, a kindergarten class and a number of staff members have to be quarantined.

They will be able to return to Mount Kisco Elementary Dec. 17.

Adelberg said all others at the school are not at risk due to the situation and the building is being thoroughly cleaned each night. Safety protocols are being adhered to as well.

"I look forward to the time when these notifications can be archived into a file for our records and never used again," he said. "Until then, we will continue to do whatever is necessary to keep our students and staff safe and our community well informed."
