Cross River Resident Jeffrey Tambor Wins Emmy for 'Transparent'

In addition to Tambor, the show also won a directing Emmy for its creator, Jill Soloway.

Veteran actor Jeffrey Tambor won an Emmy Award Sunday night for his performance as a transgender woman in “Transparent,” the first Emmy the Cross River resident has received following a distinguished career with a total of six previous nominations.

Tambor won for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy for the role of Maura Pfefferman, a late-in-life transgender woman, and a role for which he also won a Golden Globe earlier this year.

In addition to Tambor, the show also won a directing Emmy for its creator, Jill Soloway.

In his acceptance speech, Tambor thanked his wife, Kasia, the cast, his teachers, Soloway and others, and he dedicated his performance and the award to transgender community:

“And I’m going to wrap up by saying, not to repeat myself, but to specifically repeat myself: I’d like to dedicate my performance and this award to the transgender community. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your courage. Thank you for your stories. Thank you for our inspiration. Thank you for letting us be part of the change. God bless.”
