DAR Presents Historic Preservation Recognition Award

Polly Cooper Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution conferred the prestigious Historic Preservation Recognition Award to Jenny Weisburger at the Bedford Town Hall Meeting on May 16, 2023.
Jenny Weisburger was nominated for the award due to her outstanding volunteer contribution to preserve local history in Bedford, Westchester County, New York. The DAR granted the award based on her time spent organizing the cleaning and restoration of historic tombstones and serving as president of the local Friends of the Bedford Burying Grounds Foundation. She collaborated with both the Foundation and the Town of Bedford to preserve and conserve over 30 of Bedford’s historic public and private burying grounds and promoted public awareness of these sites’ historical and cultural significance.
During the award ceremony, Jenny gave credit to many of her fellow volunteers for their work at the Friends of the Bedford Burying Grounds to promote the foundation’s objectives of preservation, conservation, mapping, education, fund raising and coordination with town officials to further preserve the history of the Town of Bedford. The foundation also photographs tombstones to assist in historical and genealogical research.

Lisbeth Fumagalli, Town of Bedford Town Clerk, states Jenny’s “selfless leadership, planning and hard work has allowed us to preserve a vital part of local history”!
