Bedford Community Theatre announces auditions for the Pit Band for its November production of Hairspray. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, October 11th at 6 pm.
Based on the 1988 John Waters film of the same name, HAIRSPRAY takes place in racially segregated 1962 Baltimore. It tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, a teenager with a big heart, a big hairdo and a figure to match. Tracy dreams of dancing in "The Corny Collins Show" - a local teen dance show a la "American Bandstand" - but is told she won’t “fit in”. Tracy then befriends Seaweed J. Stubbs, a dancer in the monthly "Negro Day" on the show, and they work together to break through the biases of both race and physical appearance.
HAIRSPRAY boasts a rousing 60's inspired score, terrific dancing and an uplifting message about accepting people for who they are.
