Oregon author Julian Smith, who was born and raised in Katonah, will be in town to discuss and read from his book Crossing the Heart of Africa: An Odyssey of Love and Adventure, recently published by Harper Perennial, for which he has won the 2011 Outstanding Book Award for memoir/autobiography from the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
Smith's work as a travel writer has appeared in Outside, National Geographic Adventure, Smithsonian and Wired, among other publications.
