On October 8 & 9, 2011, from 2pm – 4pm, the Pound Ridge Historical Society (PRHS) is pleased to present guest speaker, Ed Isaacs. Mr. Isaacs is the great great grandson of Sgt. George E. Dixon who stood guard over the Lincoln conspirators and witnessed their court trial and execution. As well, Mr. Isaacs is a member of The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and a member and past president of The Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Isaacs will have on hand and will be reading from the diary of Sgt. Dixon. It is believed that the diary is the first known document found to list the names of the guards and their duties guarding the prisoners. It provides a first-hand glimpse of this famous historic event.
Mr. Isaac’s presentation is in connection with the PRHS Museum’s exciting Civil War exhibit. The exhibit documents Pound Ridge’s involvement in the Civil War and honors the 109 enlisted men of Pound Ridge, including First Sgt. Thomas J. Murphy of Pound Ridge, recipient of The Congressional Medal of Honor, our country’s highest military award. Also on exhibit is original Civil War art by Don Spaulding, original Union uniforms, and other Civil War memorabilia.
The museum is open most weekends through December 4 from 2pm – 4pm and is located at 255 Westchester Avenue in Pound Ridge, NY. Admission is free. Donations are welcomed.
