Newman Performs Complete Bach Organ Preludes and Fugues

Sunday, March, 13th at 4:00pm and Sunday, March 20th at 4:00pm, renowned organist Anthony Newman will perform the first two in a three concert series presenting Bach’s complete preludes and fugues written for the organ.  Mr. Newman called the “high priest of Bach,” by Wynton Marsalis and, “an organist for our time, hard-hitting and powerful,” by the New York Times, will perform the concerts to benefit the area churches.

On March 13th, St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Bedford will host the first concert of the cycle where Mr. Newman will perform the Prelude and Fugue in D, the most brilliant pedal piece Bach wrote, and the Fantasia and Fugue in G Minor, perhaps the greatest organ fugue ever written.

South Salem Presbyterian Church will host the March 20th concert presenting additional works including the Prelude and Fugue in A and Bach’s Toccata Adagio and Fugue in C.  The Toccata Adagio and Fugue in C, one of Bach's most famous works was performed by Vladimir Horowitz in his historic Return to Carnegie Hall concert.  The adagio was made famous in transcription by Pablo Casals.  The fugue is a rollicking and rhythmic composition.
