Trumpeter Ted Daniel grew up in Ossining, frequently collaborating with legendary guitarist Sonny Sharrock before studying music theory and composition at City College of New York. Daniel performed with a number of ensembles and jazz musicians including Brute Force, Archie Shepp, Dewey Redman, Andrew Cyrille, Sam Rivers, Billy Bang and Henry Threadgill, taught workshops and master classes in the United States as well as in Japan and Spain, and received a compositional grant from the National Endowment for the Arts before forming the International Brass and Membrane Corps.
