Fall High Adventure Scouting Weekend

Scout troops from across the area set off on outdoor adventures this past weekend.

ScoutsBSA Troop 301 for girls, in preparation for their summer Maine High Adventure trek, completed a 20 mile stretch of the Delaware River. Setting off on Saturday morning, the scouts canoed down the river and navigated the rapids, camping out Saturday night before completing their float trek on Sunday morning.

Boy scouts from Pound Ridge Troop 1 hikes a 16+ mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail from Pawling to Stormville. Spending their nights at 2 shelters along the trail, the scouts discovered a scenic lookouts along the trail and around Nuclear Lake, where the fall colors were peaking.

Scouts from Goldens Bridge Troop 154 enjoyed the challenge of their annual "No Stove" campout, where they were challenged to make all their meals over an open fire or with coals at the Durland Scout Reservation.

In the outdoors, Scouts have opportunities to acquire skills that make them more self-reliantand learn to cooperate to meet outdoor challenges that may include extreme weather, difficult trails, and dealing with nature’s unexpected circumstances.
