Hudson Valley Man Tells Police He Wanted to Die Before Being Shot and Killed

He brandished what looked like a handgun and threatened to shoot police.

Middletown, NY — Police released details of the police involved shooting that happened Wednesday in Middletown.

After officers responded to a domestic abuse call, Richard Dinneny, 53, told them he wanted to die, FIOS1 News said.

Police said Dinneny, who is a convicted felon, had come out of his Overlook Drive home wielding what was later determined to be a pellet gun and threatened to shoot police, after which two veteran police officers asked several times for him to drop the weapon, according to the Times Herald Record.

The officers opened fire. Dinneny was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.
