Julia Louis-Dreyfus Dedicates Emmy Win to Her Father Who Was a Bedford Resident
The elder Louis-Dreyfus died two days before the Emmy Awards ceremony.
BEDFORD, NY — An emotional Julia Louis-Dreyfus dedicated her latest Emmy win Sunday to her father, William Louis-Dreyfus, who had died the previous Friday.
William Louis-Dreyfus, a Bedford resident, was 84, according to an obituary on the Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home website.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus won her fifth consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of U.S. President Selina Meyer in the HBO series “Veep.”
In accepting her award, Julia Louis-Dreyfus said she wanted to apologize for the current political climate.

“I think that ‘Veep’ has torn down the wall between comedy and politics,” she said, adding that it now “feels more like a sobering documentary.”
Louis-Dreyfus then said, crying as her hand holding her speech shook, that she was dedicating the Emmy to her father.
“I’m so glad that he liked ‘Veep’ because his opinion was the one that really mattered,” she said.
