Lewisboro Volunteer Receives Honor as EMS Provider of the Year
DeJong got the award at the Firemen's Association of the State of New York convention.

BEDFORD, NY — A Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps has received an award for extraordinary service.
Bedford resident Riley DeJong, now-21 years old, was in the front car of the Metro-North Harlem Line train that struck an SUV at an at-grade crossing in Valhalla February 3, 2015.
Unbelievably, she was not injured when the the SUV and more than 450 feet of third rail tore through the train car.

According to information from the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), DeJong, who had just received her EMT-B certification as a member of the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, leaped into action, beginning live-saving aid to those who were wounded before the arrival of other first responders.
For her actions, DeJong was honored by FASNY recently as the 2016 EMS Provider of the Year.
