The New Canaan YMCA hosted the Junior East Zone Synchronized Swimming Championship on February 10-13. The New Canaan YMCA Aquianas Junior team of Diya Banerjee, Alice Chidley, Kate Dalia, Emma Flynn, Alexandra Lin (Lewisboro), Isabella Montgomery and Eliza Sturgeon earned a gold medal.

“This team works really well together,” said Head Coach Jen Muzyk. “It takes strong teamwork and precise timing to swim a routine like theirs.”
There were a total of 167 athletes, representing 14 teams from across the Northeast, competing at the meet.
In the trio event Hannah Vogel, Alice Chidley, and Emma Flynn earned a silver medal. In the duet event Kate Dalia and Eliza Sturgeon placed second, Alexandra Lin (Lewisboro) and Emily Roney placed third, and Alice Chidley and Emma Flynn placed fifth. In the solo event Alexandra Lin (Lewisboro) took third and Kate Dalia took sixth. In the figures event Isabella Montgomery, Alice Chidley, Eliza Sturgeon, Emily Roney and Diya Banerjee placed first, second, third, fourth and ninth respectively.
Three of the Aquiana’s swimmers, Isabella Montgomery, Alice Chidley, and Alexandra Lin (Lewisboro), were named to the 2012 East Zone Junior Championship 13/15 Age Group All Star Team based on figure scores and a split test. The New Canaan YMCA Aquianas now prepare for their next meet which is the Senior East Zone Championship to be held March 9-11 in Tonawanda, NY.
Fox Lane boys win
No. 2 Fox Lane did what it had to do to fight off an upset bid from the visitors and defeat Suffern 40-36 in a Class AA first-round Section 1 boys basketball tournament game Feb. 17.
Will Trawick led the Foxes with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Fox Lane will host No. 7 North Rockland in the quarterfinals 6 p.m. tonight.
The winners of each quarterfinal contest will advance to the Section 1 Final Four at the Westchester County Center in White Plains Feb. 27-March 4.

Girls playoffs hoops
Fox Lane traveled to Arlington for its first-round Section 1 Class AA contest Feb. 17, falling 69-48.
