Nan Hayworth Concedes, Sean Maloney Wins Re-Election in 18th Congressional District

According to the boards of election of Putnam, Orange, Dutchess and Westchester counties, more than 2,700 votes separated the candidates.

Incumbent Democratic Rep. Sean Maloney Wednesday received a concession phone call from his Republican opponent, former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, late Wednesday afternoon, Maloney wrote to his constituents in an email:

It’s now official, Emily: Congresswoman Hayworth graciously called to concede. We won!

Please know that this victory is yours – it belongs to everyone who not only believed in our shared vision for America but also was willing to fight for it.

According to the boards of election of Putnam, Orange, Dutchess and Westchester counties, more than 2,700 votes separating the two candidates as of Wednesday.

Hayworth posted on her Facebook page that despite the closeness of the race, she does not see a “path to victory” at this time. She said she congratulated Maloney and wished him well.
