Photos: Second 'Run the Farm' Draws Over 700 Runners to Muscoot Trails
Perfect weather and enthusiastic crowds young and old came early Sunday morning to run the trails of Muscoot Farm and support the Muscoot Farmer's Market. Three different races - 2 kids races, and one 5 mile race - went off well.
Muscoot Farm hosted the second annual "Run The Farm" trail races including "Kids Run The Farm" on Sunday, October 23rd. Over 250 kids participated in two heats of trail races. After the kids races, a slightly older crowd ran the 5 mile trail race featuring a run around the beautiful perimeter trails of 777 acres of parkland.
The race is put on to show off the beauty of the Muscoot trails and bring attention to local farms and farmer's markets. Runners are encouraged to shop at the market by getting "Farm Bucks" at the end of their races to spend at the stalls of the market. Kids received $2 in farm bucks and 5 mile finishers received $5 in farm bucks.
Race director Tony Godino of Bedford said "I am thrilled to see so many young people out running trails. This is good news for the sport." As the audience applauded he remarked with a smile "Don't clap too loud! In a few years these kids will be blowing by you in the races."
