At the Northford Ice Pavilion, Harvey’s varsity ice hockey team defeated Hamden Hall 6-1 in their first FAA league game of the season. It was important for the Cavaliers to notch this league win, since it was Hamden Hall who won their league match last year and knocked Harvey out of the FAA playoffs in the semi-final round.
Brett Marks opened up the scoring for Harvey just 1:25 into the game on a feed from Tim Ehlberg. Ehlberg also set up Ricky Schulman 10:02 into the first stanza to get the Cavs rolling.
Harvey padded a 4-0 lead in the first period, as Schulman scored just 24 seconds after his first goal and Robert Van Raamsdonk potted one less than a minute after that. Three goals in less than one minute made it hard for the young, had-working Hamden Hall team to bounce back.
Harvey matched a counter-attack in the second period with key saves by Robert Massimi who finished with 29 saves in the afternoon. On another Ehlberg set up, Schulman completed yet another hat trick during the second period, as he now sits at a career total of 98 goals.
Sophomore Curtis Rattner scored on a face-off play set up by Marks and Van Raamsdonk half way through the final period to ice the game.
