Jamie Kanner, a senior in John F. Kennedy High School’s advanced science research program, earned first place in Behavioral Sciences at the Long Island Science Congress held at The Wheatley School in Westbury last month.
As a result of her first-place accomplishment, Kanner was invited to present her research project and compete for placement at the New York State Science Congress competition at Brookhaven National Laboratory on May 30.
Jamie’s research project, titled: “What Do You Think? The Perceptions of Typical Individuals Regarding Those with Autism Spectrum Disorder,” was developed with the help of a mentor from Harvard Medical School and professionals from the Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism. Kanner was recognized for her extraordinary accomplishment at the June 3 meeting of the Bellmore-Merrick CHSD Board of Education.
