Nassau County Officers Honored For Catching Suspect in Armed Robbery

The suspect was wanted for robbing four places at gunpoint in Bellmore and Merrick within seven hours, police say.

Two Nassau County police officers were recently honored for catching a man suspected of robbing four places at gunpoint in Bellmore and Merrick within seven hours earlier this month.

Officer Ronald Curaba was on patrol in Merrick when he saw a man matching a the description of the suspect walking in the street. He approached the man to talk to him but he fled and Curaba began chasing him.

Both Curaba and officer Joseph Laundrie tackled and arrested the man, later identified as 27-year-old Jerrod Rollerson, who was in possession of a loaded Sccy 9mm gun wrapped in a sweatshirt, police said.

Laundrie recently graduated from the Police Academy and was on his first tour and Curaba has been with the Nassau County Police Department for a year.

The two officers received citations from County Executive Edward P. Mangano, Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter and PBA President James Carver recently honored Nassau County Police Officers Ronald Curaba and Joseph Laundrie for their "heroic actions."

“I commend Officers Curaba and Laundrie for the outstanding job they performed in bringing this defendant to justice and helping to keep our streets safe,” Mangano said.  “Our officers are known for their expertise in law enforcement, which is why Nassau is one of the safest large suburban counties in America today."
