North Bellmore Students Raise Awareness Of Social Host Laws

They helped to spread the message of social host laws to places all over town.

From North Bellmore School District: Students from the North Bellmore School District are doing their part to raise awareness about the social host law and prevent underage drinking. Members of the Students Against Destructive Decisions club at each of the five elementary schools placed “Those Who Host Lose The Most” stickers on pizza boxes.

The initiative was led by the district’s Prevention Department in partnership with the Bellmore-Merrick Community Coalition and Bellmore-Merrick Parent Center. Each school received pizza boxes from a designated pizzeria. Students placed the stickers on the boxes, which were then returned to the respective eateries including Gino’s, Mama Gina’s, Super Pizza, Umberto’s and Vincenzo’s.

“Educating our children at a young age about the dangers of underage drinking and families about the consequences of hosting underage drinking helps with prevention,” said Jo Ann Signorelli, the district’s prevention coordinator. “The students also learned about social activism.”
