📰 News we're reading

1. Everybody Has a 'First Time': Know Theatre Revisits Davenport Play (wskg.org) — Know Theatre is staging the play "My First Time" in downtown Binghamton from September 11th through 27th, with evening and matinee performances at 74 Carroll Street. The show weaves anonymous stories about people’s "first times" into a funny, awkward, and sometimes emotional evening, and even invites audience members to anonymously contribute their own experiences, including a pay-what-you-can night on September 17.

2. OurBus expands weekend travel options from Binghamton to New York City suburbs (wbng.com) — New OurBus weekend routes now connect Binghamton directly to Long Island, Queens, Nanuet, and Middletown, giving students and residents more options to reach New York City suburbs without changing in Manhattan. The schedule is built around Binghamton University travel patterns, with extra trips on long weekends and peak college periods, restoring a direct Long Island link lost during the pandemic.

3. Christian Campus Ministry Sues SUNY Broome After Club Recognition Denied (christianitydaily.com) — A Christian student ministry at SUNY Broome in Binghamton is suing the college after being denied official club recognition over its requirement that leaders share its Christian beliefs. The group argues the policy violates its First Amendment rights, while the college cites its nondiscrimination rules, setting up a local test case with echoes of similar disputes at other universities.

4. Binghamton shuts out Syracuse 1-0, extends scoreless streak (wbng.com) — Binghamton’s women’s soccer team kept its perfect defensive start alive in nearby Vestal, shutting out Syracuse 1-0 for a sixth straight clean sheet to open the season. Goalkeeper Rebecca Kessler anchored the back line with multiple key saves before a second-half corner deflected in off an Orange defender to secure the win.
