Conversations with the artist: ‘Navigating Uncharted Waters’

 <td>The Bridgehampton Museum, located at 2368 Montauk Highway, is pleased to present Uncharted Waters, a solo exhibition of paintings by Mark Seidenfeld, on view June 4 through June 21, 2026. The exhibition inaugurates the Corwith Homestead Tractor Barn, a newly renovated, contemporary exhibition space blended into the historic William A. Corwith Homestead campus.
Seidenfeld’s paintings evolve from earlier representational work into fully realized abstraction, where landscape gives way to interior vision. These are not depictions, but constructed ﬁelds—dreamscapes shaped through layering, interruption, and revision.
Each work engages what the artist identiﬁes as the Unknown: a condition that resists repetition and continuously shifts. What is resolved in one painting becomes insufﬁcient in the next. The work advances through this instability, with each painting extending, rather than reiterating, the last.
A consistent pursuit of depth underlies the practice. Surface is built, disrupted, and recalibrated, producing compositions that hold tension without closure. Installed within the scale and structure of the barn, the paintings activate the space as a ﬁeld of perception.Uncharted Waters establishes both the inaugural program of the Corwith Homestead Tractor Barn and a concentrated statement of Seidenfeld’s ongoing investigation into abstraction.</td>

The event showcases a variety of voices reading their short personal essays, exploring how we define ourselves, our values, our strengths and weaknesses. Sharing the first-person human condition brings us together, with humor, with heartbreak, and with a goal of mutual understanding.</td>

The event is curated by Hamptons writer Heather Buchanan. Her column Kiss &amp; Tell was recently awarded Best Print Humor Column in the country by the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. Buchanan has also won awards from the Press Club of Long Island and the National Federation of Press Women. Previous spoken word events she has produced have been sell outs such as at Bay Street Theater and The Church in Sag Harbor and Greenwich Village.

 <td>Join us for another summer of plein air painting classes with the Bridgehampton Museum! This year our workshops will be hosted by three different artists throughout the summer, giving all of our students more opportunities to learn. These classes are for artists of all abilities from beginners to professionals and will take place at a series of beautiful locations within the Bridgehampton area. Join us to get hands on with some history!
The Montauk Point Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in New York State, commissioned by President George Washington in 1792 and completed in 1796. Located at the easternmost tip of Long Island, it has guided ships safely through the Atlantic Ocean for more than two centuries. Today, it is a National Historic Landmark and popular site featuring a museum and panoramic ocean views.</td>

At the culmination of this program, The Bridgehampton Museum will be hosting an exhibition of works done by students in this class. Each student will be able to submit one piece they worked on during one of the classes to be part of the exhibition which will be on view in the museum this fall.

Operated by the Water Mill Museum, the site also hosts seasonal events, demonstrations, and community activities. Nothing says spring better than our popular Classic Design Luncheon and Lecture! We’re honored to feature Genevieve Wheeler-Brown, the author of&nbsp;<a href="https://beyondblueandwhite.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">“Beyond Blue and White.”</a>
Wheeler-Brown’s book explores the history of Delftware ceramics, focusing on the often-overlooked roles of women as makers, patrons, and collectors, from 17th-century factory owners like&nbsp;Barbara Rotteveel&nbsp;to Gilded Age collectors like&nbsp;Mrs. J. Pierpont Morgan. A must for devotees of decorative arts and the history of material culture. 
Location: The award-winning Jay Estate Gardens designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz. Co-Chairs, Tracy Edwards, Liz Garrett, Emmy Lambert, Lindsay Bello Martin and Suzanne Clary.
Guests will enjoy botanical cocktails and a tour of the blue and white blooms of our gardens at 11:30am followed by lunch and lecture at 12 Noon. Booksigning at 1:30pm. Catering provided by Scarborough Fair Catering.
Spring garden attire and hats encouraged!

GENEVIEVE WHEELER BROWN
Founding Genevieve Wheeler Decorative Art Advisory in 2003, Genevieve comes to the advisory business with more than 12 years of experience in the auction world, strong generalist knowledge and a wide range of contacts in American, European and Asian decorative and fine arts.
Genevieve began her career with Christie’s in 1992 with the European Decorative Arts Department after working as an intern at The Phillips Collection, Washington D.C. in 1990. She was then asked to run Overseas Consignments at Christie’s Park Avenue, a department that handled inquiries for European based auctions including Indian and Southeast Asian art, Islamic Art, Miniatures, Textiles and Cameras. In 1995 Genevieve became the New York contact for sales of Fabergé and Russian Silver at Christie’s Park Avenue and most recently was as a specialist in Fine Musical Instruments at Christie’s Rockefeller Center from 1998 to 2003.
While at Christie’s, she was involved with important sales such as ‘The Pine Cone Egg’ by Carl Fabergé and ‘The Taft’ Stradivari which fetched the auction record for an instrument sold in the United States. She has also been an appraiser on the PBS production ‘The Antiques Roadshow’.
A supporter of several fine and decorative art related institutions, Genevieve has served on the Board of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York, served as a member of the Young Fellows Steering Committee of the Frick Collection from 1995 to 2005 and co-Chaired the Winter Antiques Show Young Collector’s Night, New York in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Genevieve currently advises several organizations including <a href="https://www.dumbartonhouse.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Dumbarton House</a>, a Federal period house museum in Georgetown, as a board member as well as for <a href="https://www.thewintershow.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">The Winter Show</a> as a vice-chair of Opening Night and as co-founder of The Winter Show Luncheon.About The Jay Heritage Center
