Care Bear Campers in Bronxville Enjoy In-House Field Trip

Campers learned about a variety of animals and were able to ask questions, make observations, and touch some of them.

The following release is from The Chapel School:

On Wednesday, July 30th campers in The Chapel School Care Bear Camp were treated to an “In House” field trip to The Nature of Things. The Nature of Things is an environmental outreach program that presents quality live animal presentations to schools and centers throughout the greater Metropolitan areas in New York and Connecticut. The program originated in 1982, and provides hands-on and developmentally appropriate science education that features an inquiry-based approach to live animal exploration.

Campers learned about a variety of animals and were able to ask questions, make observations, and touch some of the animals. “The shell feels like wood,” stated one camper, after touching Sadie the tortoise. “Her legs are really skinny,” stated another. “That hamster looks like a little black bear,” stated one child, when introduced to Pugsley, who is actually a black bear hamster. The campers also met Charlie the Chameleon. “I have a book about chameleons. They change colors.” “Wow, he looks like a triceratops!” The campers wondered why the snake was named Miss Piggy. “She is a hog nosed snake. Look at her nose,” stated Franlisa, the naturalist from The Nature of Things. The “In House” field trip ended with a visit from Scarlett the hedgehog and Bandit the ferret.
