Country Bank Strides Towards Type One Diabetes Cure
New York Country Bank Raises over $15,000 for the 2018 New York JDRF One Walk
On September 30, over 175 people strode over the Brooklyn Bridge to raise awareness and funds for Type 1 Diabetes research in the annual New York Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) One Walk. Country Bank, a sponsor of the New York JDRF chapter and One Walk team participant, raised over $15,000 as a corporate team.
The family-owned financial institution places deep emphasis on community building and charitable giving, and fewer causes are closer to the Murphy family’s heart than the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, having lost a family member to the disease.
“Not only has Juvenile Diabetes impacted my own family, but many members of our Country Bank community, as well,” said Carolyn T. Murphy, Country Bank Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer and this year’s Country Bank JDRF One Walk Team Captain. “Raising awareness by organizing fundraisers and offering support to other families keeps us hopeful and committed to being part of the solution.”
The Country Bank team began its one and a half mile trek at Foley Square, Manhattan at 10 a.m. Participants walked over the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, met dazzling views due to the sunny and clear skies. In total, close to one million dollars have been raised for the 2018 fundraising walk.
This year marks Country Bank’s 30th anniversary of serving communities in Metro New York. Celebrating their achievement and commitment to the people they serve is relayed in their new motto, “Here you are family.” The Murphy family and Country Bank don’t just talk the walk but actually walk it by supporting and participating in community events throughout the year.
“We live in the same communities as our patrons. What matters to them matters to us,” said Murphy. “Country Bank has been supporting the JDRF for over 20 years, and we won’t stop until their goal of finding a cure has been accomplished. Together, we can make great things happen!”
