Fire Damages Village Day Spa, 2 Other Businesses in Bronxville
Officials determined that the early morning fire, which began at the Spa early Friday morning, was accidental.
Firefighters battled a blaze early Friday morning that started at Village Day Spa and caused damage there and to the two other businesses in the building at 45 Kraft Avenue in Bronxville, fire officials said.
There was heavy fire and damage on the second floor, where the fire began and the spa is located, and water and smoke damage to the two businesses on the first floor—Savanna at Home and Staino’s Custom Drapery, according to Captain Louis Buccheri from the Eastchester Fire Department.
The fire was caused either by “spontaneous combustion from towels in the laundry/kitchen area or possibly from a discarded cigarette” in that same area, Buccheri said.

The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team determined that it was accidental, according to Buccheri.
They received the call at 12:31 a.m. as an automatic alarm and a Metro North police office who was at the Bronxville train station also reported seeing smoke from the building, he said.

Firefighters met with an obstacle early on. As they began to take out the windows to relieve smoke as firefighters went in, they found walls blocking the windows, according to Buccheri.
“After we broke the windows, we came upon walls that were built over the windows,” he said, which caused a delay.
“The windows were completely covered over with insulation and sheet rock,” Buccheri said, although firefighters were able to cut through it.
That matter is being turned over to the building department in Bronxville and the Fire Prevention Bureau in Eastchester, according to Buccheri.
No one was in the building at the time and no injuries were reported, according to officials.
It took close to an hour and a half to get the blaze under control, and firefighters didn’t leave the scene until 3:51 a.m.
The entire Eastchester Fire Department was at the scene and they were assisted by the New Rochelle, Mount Vernon and Larchmont fire departments.
