Letter To The Editor: Mayor's Take On Scaffold Law Inaccurate
The letter's author is executive director of the New York Committee on Occupation Safety and Health.

To the Editor:
Sadly, Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin’s statements on the Scaffold Safety Law are either intentionally misleading or are just wildly inaccurate.
To be clear, the Scaffold Safety Law requires that contractors provide all workers on their sites with proper safety equipment to protect against elevation-related injuries. If they fail to provide proper safety equipment and a worker is injured because of it, the contractor is liable. If a contractor provides the proper equipment and the worker chooses not to use it, the contractor is not liable for resulting injuries. It’s simple.

New Yorkers largely agree that our infrastructure is in need of investment. However, that’s not an excuse to roll back worker protections. Let’s rebuild our state, but protect the workers whose safety is at risk.
