Selwyn Days Found Not Guilty After 5 Trials

Days was accused of murdering an Eastchester millionaire and his health-care aide.

EASTCHESTER, NY — In day two of jury deliberations for his fifth murder trial, Selwyn Days was found not guilty. Days was accused of murdering Archie Harris, 79, and Betty Ramcharan, 35, in 1996 in Eastchester.

Westchester District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. issued a statement after the jury's verdict was announced. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

“Though we are disappointed in today’s verdict, we respect the decision of the jury in this case,” he said.

Days was convicted in his fourth trial in 2011, but it was overturned by an appellate court.

The bodies of Harris and Ramcharan, Harris’ home health aide, were discovered Nov. 21, 1996, at 4 Berkley Circle in Eastchester.

Days was not arrested until February 2001.

He has been in jail since his arrest.
