Yonkers Schools Superintendent Resigns
Dr. Michael Yazurlo submitted his resignation Friday, effective immediately.
Yonkers Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Yazurlo resigned his position Friday for undisclosed health reasons, Board of Education Dr. Nader J. Sayegh announced.
Yazurlo’s resignation is effective immediately, and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Edwin M. Quezada will serve as acting Superintendent “to maintain stability and continue the District’s forward moving path,” according to Sayegh.
Yazurlo had only been in the post since last year, reports The Journal News, and had been superintendent of the Tuckahoe School District for more than a dozen years. The 66-year-old’s background also includes a stint as a Yonkers teacher.

“Dr. Yazurlo brought a steady hand and vision to the District when he came out of retirement to take the helm,” said Dr. Sayegh in a statement. “His advocacy and leadership as a teacher, as principal of Roosevelt High School and as Superintendent of Schools made a difference in the lives of the students we serve. The Trustees and I wish him well in his future endeavors.”
