BROOKLYN, NY — The popular restaurant Nura is closing permanently, owners announced this week, marking the end of a six-year journey that brought acclaim to the business on Norman Avenue.

"This time comes for (almost) every restaurant, and it comes for us now," the team wrote in a social media post. "With full hearts, we announce that Nura’s final day of service will be Sunday, February 15th."

Nura launched in 2021 as the follow-up venture from restaurateurs Michelle Lobo and Scott Hawley, the team behind Bushwick's Otis. Chef Jackie Carnesi, formerly of Roberta's pizza fame, helmed the kitchen with a menu highlighting tandoori skewers and breads reflecting Lobo-Hawley's Indian heritage.

Born during the pandemic—its lease signed just two weeks before NYC's first lockdown in March 2020—Nura opened in a former auto body shop. "Nura would not have existed without the care, talent, and belief of so many: our landlord Jack, whose grace during the pandemic gave us the chance to open at all," the owners said, thanking their team members.

Nura's menu featured a curated lineup of small, medium, and large plates, plus shareable snacks, breads, and dips. Standouts included the charred half-chicken with green chili sauce and the lamb shank served with daal curry and herb salad.

Ownership did not mention a specific reason for Nura's closure.

"It takes an extraordinary number of people to bring a place to life," they wrote. "To all of you, we are deeply grateful. Onwards."
