1. Woman Killed In Brooklyn Hit-And-Run (patch.com) — A 29-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run while riding a two-wheeled vehicle near Jamaica Avenue and Cypress Hills Street in Brooklyn, and police are still searching for the pickup driver who fled. The same Cypress Hills intersection has already seen at least one other fatal crash this year, including a deadly e-scooter collision in May, raising renewed safety concerns for Brooklyn residents.
   

2. Brooklyn to Receive $2.8 Million For Community Organizations Supporting Small Businesses (bkreader.com) — Brooklyn is getting nearly $2.8 million in city grants to help more than 30 local groups boost small businesses, improve streetscapes, and support commercial corridors. The funding, Brooklyn's largest share citywide, will back BIDs and merchant associations from Coney Island to Bay Ridge with projects like public art, cleaning, and better lighting to keep neighborhood business districts thriving long term.
   

3. St. Francis College, charter school begin scholastic partnership (brooklyneagle.com) — Prospect Schools' Brooklyn Prospect High School is moving to Downtown Brooklyn this fall to sit next door to St. Francis College, creating a tight new high school-to-college pipeline. Eligible students will gain access to a three-year bachelor's option that can cut tuition costs by about $45,000, plus expanded academic and faculty development opportunities.
   

4. Jewish Children's Museum to Host Third Kids' Art Festival (collive.com) — Families in Brooklyn can mark their calendars for Monday, August 24, when the Jewish Children's Museum hosts a free Kids' Art Festival on its Eastern Parkway plaza in Crown Heights. From 1 to 4 p.m., children can enjoy Rosh Hashana-themed crafts, sensory play, bubble fun, and a kids' race track, with ices available throughout the afternoon for a festive neighborhood gathering.
   

5. St. Francis College elects four new board members (brooklyneagle.com) — St. Francis College in Downtown Brooklyn has added four new trustees with expertise in finance, healthcare, ministry, and business to help guide its next phase of growth. Leaders say the expanded board will support the college's push to offer affordable, high-quality education from its newer Livingston Street campus serving Brooklyn students.
