Suspect In 2022 Death Of Ex-NFL Player Arrested In Brooklyn: Police

BROOKLYN, NY — A suspect in the death of former NFL player Antonio Dennard, who was fatally shot outside a Berks County bar in 2022, was arrested in Brooklyn this week, authorities said Wednesday.

Jose Pizzaro was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Tuesday in the 700 block of Dekalb Avenue, authorities announced on social media. Pizarro is suspected of fatally shooting Dennard outside Legends Bar and Restaurant in Reading on Oct. 16, 2022.

On the night of the shooting, police said a gunshot victim arrived at the hospital following the shooting where he later died, NBC Philadelphia reported.

The victim was later identified as 32-year-old Dennard, who played for teams including the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants.

Authorities ruled the death a homicide and Pizzaro was identified as a suspect after authorities found his fingerprints on Dennard’s car outside the bar, WFMZ reported.

Pizarro was charged with first- and third-degree murder, as well as aggravated assault.

Dennard signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent after leaving Langston University in 2012. He was waived later that year and went on to sign with the New York Giants.

Following his brief stint with the Giants, Dennard joined the Green Bay Packers practice squad, CBS Sports reported. Dennard also played for the Arizona Rattlers in the Arena Football League.
