Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:
1. A handful of Brooklyn gyms have come up with their own counter to antisemitism: empowering Jewish New Yorkers with the ability to fight back. Emanuel Landsman, a Lubavitch father of five who lives in Crown Heights, describes himself as a "visibly Jewish man" and was becoming increasingly concerned about the rise in antisemitic violence in the city. He decided to take action and become proficient in the Israeli martial art known as Krav Maga (literally, “close combat”). Recently, high-intensity self-defense classes have been cropping up in densely populated Jewish communities in Brooklyn — residents are equipping themselves against violence, much like Landsman. Now, there are multiple programs with multiple approaches to self-defense training, and gym mangers are noticing and uptick in demand for these types of classes. Of course, such demand among Brooklyn's Jews is evidence of a very damaging social prejudice — one that has caused individuals to for their wellbeing.

2. Three people were wounded in Brooklyn in three separate shooting that took place in less than 10 hours. According to police, three men were injured in shootings on Sunday evening during a 10-hour window — a 35 year old on near Malcolm X Boulevard and Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a 71 year old inside his home on East 48th Street near Lenox Road in East Flatbush, and a 31 year old inside an apartment building on Pulaski Street near Lewis Avenue. As of yesterday, NYPD have not made any arrests, nor have any suspects been named.
3. Police have just released footage of a suspect who flashed a train conductor before spitting at her in a Brooklyn station. Earlier this month, a man approached a 54 year old subway train conductor who was standing on an A line platform at the Shepherd Avenue station in East New York just before midnight. According to the police, no physical contact was made, but the man exposed himself to her and then spat in her direction before fleeing the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
