WJRO's #MyPropertyStory social media campaign
Survivors & families speak about seeking justice for the unprecedented theft of property from Jewish people & communities during the Shoah.

Last week, in commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, the World Jewish Restitution Organization (WJRO) launched a social media campaign that looks through the Holocaust through a different lens. The #MyPropertyStory campaign shines a light on the unprecedented theft of property from Jewish people and communities during the Shoah and its aftermath.
The five-week campaign runs from January 27 and continues through Sunday, February 27. During the campaign, survivors, children, and grandchildren of survivors are encouraged to share stories about lives that were forever changed by the Holocaust to show how homes, land, businesses, or personal possessions are important and powerful links to the past.
This year, 77 years after the Holocaust, the campaign focuses on youth speaking about justice. Their stories are powerful additions to the campaign, which is expanding to TikTok and other social media platforms.

One of our recent submissions to the campaign features Annette Renschowicz, from Brooklyn. She shares a story about her father, a Holocaust survivor originally from Poland who spent six years in various concentration camps and returned home only to be greeted by a former Polish neighbor who was not the occupant of his parent’s farmstead. Annette recounts the story of what happened to the land and her subsequent visit to the property in 2008. Please read Annette's story here.
The Holocaust was not only the murder of six million Jews but the biggest theft in human history.
