Woman Fatally Struck By Ambulance In NYC Hit-And-Run ID'd As Mom Of 2

Cherry Cayetano Sobel was publicly identified as the victim struck and killed by an ambulance in Brooklyn, police said.

BROOKLYN, NY— A mother of two and registered nurse has been identified as the woman killed by an ambulance in last week's Brooklyn hit-and-run, police said.

Cherry Cayetano Sobel, 44, was fatally struck by a private Maimonides Medical Center ambulance while crossing Ocean Avenue at Avenue O early Thursday in Midwood, police said.

The ambulance was turning left onto Ocean Avenue around 6:30 a.m. when it hit Sobel. Authorities said the driver kept going after the crash and did not stay at the scene.

The hospital suspended the ambulance crew pending the outcome of an investigation, according to officials.

Sobel’s husband, Jeff Sobel, told the New York Post that she was on her way to work when the crash occurred.

"The Maimonides family is devastated by this tragic loss. Our heart goes out to the victim's family and friends," Maimonides Medical Center said in a statement.

No official charges have been filed yet.
