Brownsville Park Rapist Arrested, Cops Say

Jazon Lopez stands accused of attacking a 20-year-old woman he dragged into Betsy Head Park earlier this month, police said.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- A man accused of raping a young woman in a Brownsville Park earlier this month has been arrested, police said.

Jason Lopez, 40, was arrested Saturday and charged with dragging his 20-year-old victim into Betsy Head Park, raping her then running off with her purse at about 2 a.m. on Dec. 1, said police.

Police found Lopez using DNA on file from Lopez's 2012 felony conviction for beating up a Bushwick store worker during a robbery, the New York Post reported.

Lopez, of East New York, was charged with rape, robbery sex abuse, unlawful imprisonment and forcible touching in Brooklyn Criminal Court Sunday and held on a $300,000 bond, court records show.

He is expected to return to court on Dec. 21, city records show.
