Man Charged In Hit-And-Run Death Of DJ Jinx Paul, DA Says
Kevin Ozoria was arrested almost one year after he tried to surrender to Brooklyn police, prosecutors said.

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — A Manhattan man has been indicted for the hit-and-run accident that killed DJ Jinx Paul in 2016, prosecutors said.
Kevin Ozoria, 28, stands accused of speeding away after he slammed into the Mega 97.9 FM host near Sheffield and Jamaica avenues in East New York on Dec. 19, 2016, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.
“This defendant heartlessly left the scene after allegedly striking and killing a beloved member of the community known to many as DJ Jinx Paul,” said District Attorney-Elect Eric Gonzalez.

The 39-year-old DJ — whose real name was Jean Paul Guerrero — was found lying in the street by another driver who called 911, prosecutors said.
Ozoria confessed to driving the car that hit Guerrero days after the accident but was later released because police lacked evidence to arrest him.

Ozoria was arrested Thursday after investigators found surveillance footage of him driving near the accident in a 2010 Honda Accord, which needed repairs the day of the accident for a shattered windshield, said prosecutors.
Ozoria was arraigned in Brooklyn criminal court on charges that include leaving the scene of an incident with a death and tampering with evidence, prosecutors said.
The Manhattan mad was held on a $7,500 cash bail and is expected to return to court on Jan. 10, prosecutors said.
Ozoria will face up to seven years in prison if convicted, said prosecutors. His attorney was not immediately available to comment.
