Pregnant Woman Shot In The Head in Brownsville, Police Say

A 19-year-old pregnant woman was shot in the head on the corner of Dean Street and Howard Avenue Sunday afternoon, police said.

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — A young pregnant woman was shot in the head Sunday morning and left in critical condition, according to police.

The 19-year-old woman was shot by an unknown man on the corner of Dean Street and Howard Avenue around 12:40 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Emergency responders found the expectant mother lying unconscious in the street and rushed her to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition, said police.

The victim’s family members told the Daily News that 19-year-old Tytianna Sparks, who is five months pregnant, and the baby are expected to survive.

“She’s doing good,” said Tytianna’s mother Ruth Sparks, 59. “She was moving and everything.”

“The baby’s all right and God is good because it could’ve been the other way around,” said Tytianna’s sister, Corinne Sparks, 37. “It could’ve been her and the baby dead.”

Police had not made any arrests as of Monday morning, according to an NYPD spokesman.
