Shooting At East New York Barbecue Kills 1, Injures 2: Cops
A 42-year-old man was killed and two others were injured when someone opened fire on a crowd gathered on Hemlock Street, police said.
EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN β A shooting that erupted at a Memorial Day barbecue in East New York on Monday left one man dead and two others injured, police said.
Police said they were called to Hemlock Street and Stanley Avenue just before 7 p.m. for reports that three men had been shot. Officers would later learn that a man had approached a large crowd gathered there and opened fire.
Witnesses told The Daily News that the gathering was a Memorial Day barbecue outside the Woodruff Playground.

When officers first got to the playground, they found an unresponsive 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his head and neck. The man was taken to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, but was pronounced dead, police said.
Another man who had been shot had left the gathering in a car before police got there. Police found him later on the corner of Eldert Lane and Linden Boulevard with a gunshot wound to his arm and took him to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. He is 46 years old and in stable condition, police said.

A third victim, who is 34 years old, also left the crowd in a car before police arrived. The car brought that person, who was shot in the chest, to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. They are also in stable condition.
There are no arrests yet and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
Police did not yet release the names of the victims but family members told The Daily News that the 42-year-old who was killed was Basheem Graham, a dad and construction worker.
The News also reported that the shooting was one of three that took place in Brooklyn on Memorial Day.
Three other people were wounded with non-life threatening injuries in another shooting at a barbecue in Bed-Stuy and another person was injured, but in stable condition, after a third shooting in East Flatbush, the News said.
