Woman Found Dismembered In Canarsie Park Was Strangled, Cops Say

Brandy Odom, the 26-year-old woman found butchered in Canarsie Park in April, died from strangulation, officials said.

CANARSIE, BROOKLYN — The Brooklyn woman who was found dismembered in Canarsie Park was strangled, police announced Thursday.

The body of Brandy Odom, 26, was found off a path in Canarsie Park near East 86th Street and Seaview Avenue at about 6:10 p.m. on April 9, police said.

The young woman, whom police were able to identify by the Chocolate tattoo on her chest, died as a result of homicidal asphyxiation, according to the Medical Examiner’s office.

While police only officially ruled her death a homicide on Thursday, Odom’s mother pleaded with police to find her daughter’s killer days after the young woman’s body was found.

"They keep finding these bits and pieces but no one is talking to me," said Nicole Odom at a candlelight vigil for her daughter. “"It could happen to somebody else's kid… and I don't want that. I want the person who did this caught."

No one has been arrested as of June 28, almost two months after Odom’s death, and police are still investigating the homicide.
