- The City of Buffalo and the Rental Assistance Corporation of Buffalo (RACB) recently announced that they are opening the Section 8 Program waiting list. This will allow residents to begin applying for the program again after its shut down in 2017. This program exists with the mission of providing better housing opportunities for residents that are low to moderate-income. To apply, it is not required that applicants reside in the City of Buffalo, but preference will go to people living and working in Erie County. (wyrk.com)
- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will be investing more than $2 million to restore and preserve part of Cayuga Creek. This funding will give Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper the resources to enhance protection efforts at the forested wetland site located south of the Niagara Falls International Airport and Air Reserve Station on Porter Road. This project aims to create a 36-acre nature preserve capable of creating a long-term ecosystem for a variety of plants and animals. The project also hopes to treat issues with water pollution damage and flooding issues. (Spectrum News)
- Approximately $800,000 is being donated to Buffalo's African American Heritage Corridor. With this large donation, $500,000 will be going towards the Niagara Freedom Station Coalition, and the remaining $300,000 will be used to revitalize and repair the Michigan Street Baptist Church. The money will also allow community leaders and economic planners more flexibility in creating long-term strategies for the area. The mission of this funding is to increase Black-owned businesses in Michigan Street neighborhoods and create new entrepreneurial opportunities around the Heritage Corridor. (Spectrum News)
