5 Things You Need to Know about the Station Depot Cafe Controversy
What do you think?
The two applicants whose proposals for a cafe in the Chappaqua train depot were rejected are mounting a petition drive.
They want the choice to be decided by a referendum of New Castle voters. And, they'll be collecting signatures at the train station on June 11.
If you are just diving into the controversy here are some key points:
- The winner chosen in May was Ladle of Love, which has a Mount Kisco restaurant.
- Mounting the petition drive are Carla Gambescia of Via Vanti! and Peter and Erin Chase. They argue that the process the Town Board went through was neither transparent nor ethical.
- You can follow the opponents and learn about their point of view on a Facebook page or a webpage called Our Station Our Town.
- Town board members who voted for the lessee say they followed a clear and public process. Three of those town board members issued a statement defending their decisions, including a detailed chronology. Read it here.
- The deadline for collecting valid signatures to force a referendum is June 18.
