Meet international activist Ruchira Gupta at Katonah Village Library. Gupta is the president and founder of Apne Aap Women Worldwide, a non-profit that works to end sex trafficking in India.

Gupta will share her inspiring story, beginning as a journalist filming a documentary, The Selling of Innocents, which won the 1997 Emmy Award. Unable to walk away from the women she filmed, Gupta founded Apne Aap ("self help" in Hindi), gaining international acclaim for her work, including the Clinton Global Citizen Award (2009) and the Abolitionist Award at the U.K. House of Lords (2007). In 2008 and 2009, Gupta addressed the U.N. General Assembly on human trafficking. Her work has been featured in 11 books, including Half the Sky by Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas Kristof.
Following the presentation, Gupta will answer questions and attend a wine and cheese reception. The evening is sponsored by the Katonah Education Exchange Program (KEEP), a local group that raises funds to underwrite programming for Apne Aap. At the reception, the KEEP founders will be unveiling several new initiatives in their second year of collaboration with Apne Aap.
