Members of the Mt. Kisco community are preparing a Cornerstone Celebration to honor the 100th birthday of the building that is now Mount Kisco Elementary School. Community members, including members of the Mt. Kisco Historical Society, have contributed photos, maps, and artifacts that now are on display in the "Mt. Kisco Museum," housed in the school library.

Interviews with senior citizens who attended high school - and some who attended all 12 grades - at what used to be the Mt. Kisco Public School and Mt. Kisco High School were conducted by fifth grade students, all reporters for “The Lion’s Roar,” the Mt. Kisco Elementary School newspaper. Stories of the good old days at the school were told and enjoyed by all. Students learned that only high school seniors could use the front doors of the school, heard about penny dances that were held during recess and learned how World War II impacted students.

We are planning more interviews and still collecting memorabilia. If your family or friends have stories to tell, please share them with us! Contact Mary Ellen Matts, Scott Whalen, or Susan Polos at MKES (666-2677) or email spolos0882@bcsdny.org.

We are planning to celebrate the school’s anniversary at the Cornerstone Celebration on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to noon. We will have tours of the school, share our collections of yearbooks and photos, and watch the taped interviews. A few surprises are in store. All are welcome! Save the date!
