Another Year Concludes for David Lee's Camp

NBA star David Lee concluded his annual Chappaqua basketball camp on Friday, wrapping up another summer that gave more than a hundred kids a chance to hone in on their skills.

“We’ve really enjoyed it," said Lee, who plays for the Golden State Warriors. Lee finished his fifth year with the camp, having started when he previously played for the New York Knicks.

Lee feels that there is a great following from the area. The camp, which is for ages 7-15, has drawn in people from Westchester County, Fairfield County, CT and New York City. It is available through the Town of New Castle's Recreation and Parks Department.

The mornings at the camp, which ran for about a week, focused mainly on drills and fundamentals, Lee explained. The afternoons involved playing games.

On the last day, the kids sat in a large group to wait for prizes, which included items such as an autographed basketball. The items were provided through Nike or the Warriors, Lee explained.

Terry Teachout, who is president of Teaches Basketball Camps - he runs the event - felt that it was a good year.

“Actually, this was one of our best camps ever," he said, noting high turnout. This year, there were about 150 kids, he said.

Among those was Millwood teen Alex Imberman, who will be back at Greeley next month to start his freshman year.

“It was really fun meeting him all these years and he’s really nice,” he said, adding that he would like to come back next year.

“He loves it and David Lee is so gracious and so nice,” said his mother, Melisa.
